THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST comes out in stores in 18 days! And that means I get to start my own #18DaysToMGDebut countdown.
If you haven’t seen it, the #18DaysToMGDebut hashtag was developed by the lovely Laurie Morrison, a fellow 2018 middle-grade debut author whose book, EVERY SHINY THING, co-written with Cordelia Jensen, was released on April 17. Eighteen Days because we’re 2018 debuters, and a countdown because… it’s so fun!
So for the next 18 days, I will answer the #18DaysToMGDebut prompts here on my blog, on Twitter and on Instagram. Join me…
Today’s prompt is “Novel Aesthetic,” and after I looked up what that meant because I’m very unhip, I fell in love with the collections of images other authors have created for their books.
When I setup this website, I included a gallery of wonderful photographs that had inspired me while I was writing THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST on my home page. I also have a board on my Pinterest account with even more amazing images related to the book.
But for this challenge, I thought I’d try some new ones.
THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST starts out on a beach, but the boy in the story also journeys through a forest and encounters an owl, fireflies and more. Everything scares him. Everything seems out to get him. And he doesn’t know where he can be safe. I tried to incorporate some of these things in this aesthetic, to give you a feel for the book.
So here’s my novel aesthetic for THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST…
