Happy Book Birthday to MY book THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST!
In this middle-grade novel, a boy washes up on a mysterious, seemingly uninhabited beach. Who is he? How did he get there? The boy can’t remember. When he sees a light shining over the foreboding wall of trees that surrounds the shore, he decides to follow it, in the hopes that it will lead him to answers. The boy’s journey is a struggle for survival and a search for the truth—a terrifying truth that once uncovered, will force him to face his greatest fear of all if he is to go home.
I’m so excited you’re at the party for THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST. Join in the fun…
PARTY SOUNDS…
You’re listening to the sounds of a mystical beach: ocean waves lapping, trees swaying in the breeze, birds tweeting, crabs scurrying. Listen on MyNoise.net.
PARTY FOOD…
There isn’t a lot to eat on the beach, except some sea grapes the Boy found in the trees. But here’s what he’d like to have at his party: pizza, cake, chocolate, soda, turkey sandwiches and ice cream. He can imagine it; can you?
PARTY GAMES…
The Boy tells himself “Once upon a time…” stories when he gets scared, which is a lot. His stories are about knights and wizards and heroes and himself, like “Once upon a time there was a boy who wasn’t afraid.” Join us in telling “Once upon a time…” stories. Type them into the comments below. (Make sure you enter the giveaway too.)
PARTY FAVORS…
The Boy gets comfort from a piece of fabric he found in his pocket. He thinks everyone should have a piece of fabric like this, so they can make their own courage.

Once upon a time there was a boy who met a girl and fell in love, and they’re living happily ever after.

Congrats, Sam! Can’t wait to read this.
Thank you!
It’s day 2 for you and I bet the feeling is still awesome!
Yes! It’s been a busy week, so I’m only just getting back to this page, but it’s still feeling awesome. 🙂
What surprised you, if anything, about the publishing process?
Hmm, that’s a great question, Danielle. There were so many surprises. The fact that they mailed out the first set of laid out pages — not every publishing house does that now. The work that went into the cover, interior and jacket design. And mostly, the amazing support from so many people, at the publishing house as well as on social media. This has been a wonderful experience.
Congrats again on your book!
Thank you!
Once upon a time, you became an inspiration to want to be published authors. Happy to share your good news!
Awww, Danielle! A wonderful “Once upon a time…” story. 🙂 Thank you
Do you look forward to school visits and book signings?
Yes! It’s so much fun meeting readers and hopefully helping to make new readers. When I was a kid, we didn’t have school visits and I didn’t think authors were real, live people. I think it’s great for kids to learn that early on, so they can learn that they can become an author or whatever they want to be too.
Are you open to Skype visits if school can’t afford travel expenses?
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. Trying to catch up and I’ve got a lot of comments to catch up with on here. 🙂 But YES! I’m always happy to do a full presentation via Skype to schools. I also offer free 15-minute Skype Q&A sessions for classrooms and book clubs who have read the book. Click on the Speaking part of my menu for more info, and contact me to schedule.
Once upon a time there was a teacher who wanted to read all the books!
